Disability access at Maldon's Old Shire Offices will be improved with the installation of a ramp.
The ramp will provide access from the Francis Street entrance of the building in the Maldon Shire Gardens which houses local businesses.
Along with new handrails, the ramp ensures the High Street site complies with Disability Discrimination Act requirements. Installation is expected to take six weeks.
"This is part of council's ongoing work to improve to the accessibility of facilities and services around our shire," Mount Alexander Shire councillor Stephen Gardner said.
"We thank the local businesses for their cooperation and we hope that the disruption from the works will be minimal to allow the business to continue as usual." Businesses will continue to operate out of the buildings with workers to ensure disruption is minimal. Access to the businesses will be by the stairs from the Maldon Shire Gardens.
The Maldon Visitor Information Centre remains close due to the COVID-19 pandemic while access to the Tarrangower Times newspaper office and local photographer will be arranged from the gardens.
The hairdressing salon at the rear building can still be accessed from Francis Street.
